MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE’S BRIEF BACKGROUND FOR WEBSITE

 

A.    DANUM VALLEY MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

 

1.     BACKGROUND

Danum Valley Management Committee (DVMC) was formally established simultaneously with the gazettement of the Forest (Danum Valley Conservation Area) Rules 1996 in May 1996. The members of the management committee include Sabah Forestry Department, Yayasan Sabah, Sabah Wildlife Department, Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Sabah Parks, World Wildlife Fund-Malaysia, Forest Research Institite Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Universiti Malaysia Sabah. The management committee acts as a policy body to matters related to the management of the Danum Valley Conservation Area (DVCA), Taliwas River Conservation Area (TRCA), Silam Coast Conservation Area (SCCA) and INFAPRO. It also acts as a governing body to all matters in relation to the research and education at areas under its jurisdiction.

2.     RESEARCH GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES

 

Research Permit MUST be obtained from DVMC prior to conducting research in DVCA, INFAPRO site, Silam Coast Conservation Area and Taliwas River Conservation Area.  This is applicable to all types of research. Prospective researcher may visit areas under the jurisdiction of DVMC for up to 2 weeks to conduct a look-see visit (research recce visit).

B.    MALIAU BASIN MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

 

1.     BACKGROUND

With the gazettement of the Forest (Maliau Basin Conservation Area) Rules 1998 in the year 1998, the Maliau Basin Management Committee (MBMC) was established.The members of the management committee include Sabah Forestry Department, Yayasan Sabah, Sabah Wildlife Department, Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Sabah Parks, World Wildlife Fund-Malaysia, Forest Research Institite Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Universiti Malaysia Sabah. The main role of the management committee is to supervise the protection and development of Maliau Basin Conservation Area (MBCA). In addition to that, the committee is also responsible to administer all matters in relation to research and education.

C.     IMBAK CANYON MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

 

1.     BACKGROUND

As the Forest (Imbak Canyon Conservation Area) Rules 2010 was gazetted in May 2010, the Imbak Canyon Management Committee (ICMC) was also established. The role of the management committee is to plan, co-ordinate, facilitate, monitor and evaluate matters related to development and protection of Imbak Canyon Conservation Area (ICCA).

2.     RESEARCH GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES

 

Research Permit MUST be obtained from ICMC prior to conducting research in ICCA.  This is applicable to all types of research. D.     FILMING AND PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY PROCEDURES IN DVCA, MBCA AND ICCA

Permit MUST be obtained from the respective management committee prior to conducting any commercial/professional filming and photography activity in areas under the jurisdiction of DVMC, MBMC and ICMC.  Formal Letter to request for Permit is to be submitted to the Secretary of DVMC, MBMC and/or ICMC. E.      DRONE USAGE PROCEDURES AND GUIDELINES IN DVCA, MBCA AND ICCA

Additional Permit MUST be obtained from the respective management committee prior to conducting any filming and photography activity involving usage of drone in areas under the jurisdiction of DVMC, MBMC and ICMC.  Please see the link below for further detail on the drone usage procedures.

F.      LIST OF RESEARCHES CONDUCTED IN DVCA, MBCA & ICCA

A total of 576 researchers had completed or are still conducting their research project in areas under the jurisdiction of Danum Valley Management Committee(DVMC).

 

A total of 345 researchers had completed or are still conducting their research in areas under the jurisdiction of Maliau Basin Management Committtee (MBMC).

 

A total of 67 researchers had completed or are still conducting their research in areas under the jurisdiction of Imbak Canyon Management Committee (ICMC).
