Background
Danum Valley Management Committee (DVMC) was formally established simultaneously with the gazettement of the Forest (Danum Valley Conservation Area) Rules 1996 in May 1996. The members of the management committee include Sabah Forestry Department, Yayasan Sabah, Sabah Wildlife Department, Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Sabah Parks, World Wildlife Fund-Malaysia, Forest Research Institite Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Universiti Malaysia Sabah. The management committee acts as a policy body to matters related to the management of the Danum Valley Conservation Area (DVCA), Taliwas River Conservation Area (TRCA), Silam Coast Conservation Area (SCCA) and INFAPRO. It also acts as a governing body to all matters in relation to the research and education at areas under its jurisdiction.
Research Guidelines and Procedures
Research Permit MUST be obtained from DVMC prior to conducting research in DVCA, INFAPRO site, Silam Coast Conservation Area and Taliwas River Conservation Area. This is applicable to all types of research. Prospective researcher may visit areas under the jurisdiction of DVMC for up to 2 weeks to conduct a look-see visit (research recce visit).
