Maliau Basin Management Committee

With the gazettement of the Forest (Maliau Basin Conservation Area) Rules 1998 in the year 1998, the Maliau Basin Management Committee (MBMC) was established.The members of the management committee include Sabah Forestry Department, Yayasan Sabah, Sabah Wildlife Department, Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Sabah Parks, World Wildlife Fund-Malaysia, Forest Research Institite Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Universiti Malaysia Sabah. The main role of the management committee is to supervise the protection and development of Maliau Basin Conservation Area (MBCA). In addition to that, the committee is also responsible to administer all matters in relation to research and education.

Research Permit MUST be obtained from MBMC prior to conducting research in MBCA, INIKEA Project Site, SUAS and RIL site.  This is applicable to all types of research. Prospective researcher may visit areas under the jurisdiction of MBMC for up to 2 weeks to conduct a look-see visit (research recce visit). Details of the guideline and application form is provided in the link below.
